Early opportunity

The data role at Company Q

Raised $25M eleven days ago. They haven’t posted a single job.

You’d be the first to ask.

What it looks like

From a resume to a sent email, in the order it actually happens.

How it works

Two ways a company can need you without a posting saying so.

Which kind of opportunity
  1. 1 · What we found

    Raised $25.0M, eleven days ago.

Headcount up 176% in twelve months. No job board anywhere.

They have not started hiring in the open yet.

  2. 2 · Why it matters

They can afford the hire and have not made it.

At this size the first data person usually gets to decide what the company measures, because nobody has decided yet.

You are proposing a role, not answering an advert.

  3. 3 · What you send

No posting exists, so this is a pitch rather than an application.

  1. 1 · What we found

    Product Analyst

Open on the company’s own careers page. Posted six days ago.

Syndication costs money, so small teams often skip it.

  2. 2 · Why it matters

It is posted, at a company you may not know.

The role is open and a strong fit, but an early-stage company is easy to miss.

You apply, and you also write to the person who owns the work.

  3. 3 · What you send

You are in the pile, and the person who owns the work knows your name.

The other way in

Why the usual job search has got harder, and what to do instead.

  1. Hiring at leading consulting firms since 2020: senior consultants up 55%, entry-level consultants down 10%. HIRING AT LEADING FIRMS, 2020 = 100 100 +55% Senior hires −10% Entry-level hires 2020 2025
    1 · The problem

    Entry-level consulting hiring has slowed

Firms are hiring more senior people and fewer graduates. Everyone else is still applying to the same famous names.

  2. A timeline. Funding, a senior hire, team growth and a launch come before any job posting. Then the role appears on the company's own careers page. Most applicants arrive only once it reaches the big job boards. EARLY OPPORTUNITY QUIETLY HIRING Funding Senior hire Team grows Launch On its own careers page Most people start here Big job boards TIME →
    2 · Where to look

7 signs a startup might be about to hire

A company shows it is growing long before it posts the role. By the time the posting appears, everyone can see it.

  3. Two ways into a company. An application joins a long queue at the application inbox. A specific email goes straight to the practice lead, the person closest to the work. THE COMPANY Application inbox Practice lead APPLY “Saw you won the hospital client…” WRITE TO ONE PERSON You
3 · How to get in

The job application is the front door. Find another way in.

Write to the one person closest to the work, with a reason they will recognize.

What does Offmap do?

Offmap helps job seekers discover companies and opportunities that are relevant to their profile. We help users go beyond traditional job boards and find companies worth applying to or reaching out to directly.

What’s the difference between Quietly Hiring and Early Opportunities?

Quietly Hiring opportunities are open roles at companies you may not have on your radar, even when your background is a strong fit. Early Opportunities are growing companies that show strong signs they may need someone with your background / experience soon.

How do you find opportunities that aren’t on traditional job boards?

We use a sophisticated agent-based research system that searches across company websites, hiring activity, funding signals, and other relevant sources. This helps us uncover opportunities that may not appear in a normal job search.

How are opportunities matched to me?

We use your resume, recent experience, projects, target roles, and preferred locations to understand what you are looking for. We then rank companies and roles based on how relevant they are to your background.

Is this specifically built for international students?

Yes. Offmap is designed with international students in the U.S. in mind. We also consider factors such as work authorization and employer sponsorship history where relevant.

Does a company need to have an open job for me to contact them?

No. A company may not currently have an open role that interests you or fits your background. Early outreach can help you start a conversation before a relevant role is formally posted.

Does the platform write the outreach email for me?

Yes. We create a personalized email based on your background, the company, and the person you are contacting. You can review and edit the message before sending it.

Can you guarantee that I’ll get an interview or a job?

No platform can guarantee an interview or job offer. However, our early users have received interviews through Offmap, helping speed up their job search and connect them with relevant opportunities.
